Open Market Option

Annuity providers can quote very different annuity income levels.  You do not have to buy your annuity from the company who you saved with for your pension. It is therefore vital to search for the best annuity deal available from the entire market by using your right to shop around - this is known as the Open Market Option.

Currently only 40% of people coming into retirement exercise their Open Market Option or right to shop around for an annuity.

You will only get one opportunity to shop around for an annuity and this could result in securing a higher annuity income for the rest of your life.

Once you have committed to an annuity provider and started to receive your annuity income the decision cannot usually be reversed. It is important therefore to make the right decisions when selecting your annuity.
